Technology for Good: How Nonprofit Leaders Are Using Software and Data to Solve Our Most Pressing Social Problems
Published by MIT Press, available September 2, 2025
The accepted wisdom in big business is that the only worthy ideas make a lot of money, preferably billions. I believe there is a different path for technology. What if tech returned to its roots and made people more effective and powerful? Even bolder, what if the benefits of technology came to the 90% of humanity traditionally neglected by for-profit companies in favor of immense profits gained by focusing on the richest 10%?
In Technology for Good, I explore that question and deliver a comprehensive how-to for leaders who want to create, expand, join, support, and improve organizations that see building technology as a key element of delivering on their social good mission.

My passion is seeing that technology benefits all of humanity, not just the richest 5-10%.

Equipping nonprofit leaders to harness technology as they tackle society’s most pressing challenges
My career has been as a serial tech entrepreneur, initially starting for-profit AI companies in Silicon Valley and then graduating to create a long series of nonprofit tech-for-good ventures. I have had the privilege of leading talented teams of technologists writing software solutions for disadvantaged communities and the nonprofits that serve them, solutions that the normal market will fail to deliver.
